I'll give it some thought during the weekend, and post then. Today is too hectic.

For starters,

1. Number of different players who have logged in to DSB. (within last week - 2 weeks - month)
- How many of them have logged in more than 5 times within the last month
- How many of them have played pracs (max. 2 pracs - more than 2 pracs)
- What is the average time a player spends in DSB (spec - in a ship)
- How many of them have ever played league

2. Number of players who have played in at least two of the last three leagues
- How many of them play current league
- How many of them have logged in this year
- How many of them play pub or pracs but not league

There could be many more, but that's what I came up with in 15 minutes.
Not all of them are possible to get but getting as much as possible will help,
also even just getting some numbers will help more than getting nothing.

No one has ever bothered to figure out why DSB is dying.
We all claim we know the reason. The truth is, the cause varies
depending on who you ask...

Abusive staff?
Hoch?
Stacked squads?
Non-competitive league?
Non-objective pub?
Lack of coders?
Old game?
No changes?
Bad management?
Abusive players?

No one knows and no one has ever tried to figure out the reason.
How could we ever have fixed the problem if we didn't even bother
to find out the cause, or at least base our pathetic guesses on
something besides personal feelings?

All we've been able to do is randomly create something new and hope
people will like it, based on what? Three people on forums saying the
idea sounds cool? These people aren't the ones who left, so how could
they know what helps?

What we can do afterwards is to figure out why are we not getting
new players, or are we? And how many old players are leaving while
we get new ones? What do people want to play? Leagues, Pracs, Pub?
Do these players play go play other zones? Etc. etc. etc.

Matching up the prac stats with who plays league is easy. Unfortunately, we don't track data on specific players who
log in to dsb in terms of how long they stay in, what they do (eg spec, play).

For now, we will have to rely on league and prac data.

You ask very good questions about why we can't get players. I'm just not sure they are answerable. For example, how would any of the metrics that we collect tell us the answer to any of those questions?

I'm currently out of town for the weekend due to a wedding. I'll set up the website to compile this data next week.

There is much crucial information we could gather...

- we can see who leave and never return
- we can find out who still play but not dsb
- we can find out the praccers that aren't interested in league
- see if there is a turning point when many vets left league or pub or the game?
then we can think what happened and how can it be prevented in the future
etc. etc. I'm not going to list all the information we get. :)

We can make many rough analyses based on the statistics when we combine different numbers.
Then in the end, we know who to ask for improvement suggestions.... The players that do not
play that particular league,prac,pub whatever.

On another note, sometimes when you list stuff in numbers you realise something obvious, which
you've been blind to before.

This is exactly what we SHOULD HAVE DONE two or three years ago. But I guess it's never too late to do something.

Games cancelled for today, first game there was no host due to my inability to access the internet, second game cancelled because most players already logged off for other duties. My apologies for this, we will train a few more hosts to attempt to fix this issue.
