Re-Organizing DSB
Posted: Mon Jun 03, 2013 11:06 pm
Hello DSBers,
Since the new beginning for DSB, we've gone through a long and rather interesting road. Now it's time to pick up the pieces and start re-constructing all fronts of DSB to meet the criteria of the new era of DSB.
Here's a short list of things which are on my to-do list:
1. New rules
In short, DSB rules as they are currently are badly outdated. They are still a remnant from the old regime of DSB which is long gone. It's about time we re-write and update everything to meet the current situation better. The rules will be simplified and shortened so most of the people will understand exactly how things work, what is allowed and what is not.
2. Theme weekends for public
While I may not be the most active public player, I've seen a lot of requests to have theme weekends in DSB. This is a no-brainer, even the most dedicated players need some changes and refreshments once in a while, therefore I propose a monthly theme weekend to happen. These include some holiday maps with different graphics as well as different kind of teamplay, for example superturrets has been requested and was generally well received last time it happened. These theme weekends must be kept short, only from Fridays to Sundays to keep DSB spinning as usual. We will need help from graphic designers and other developers to organize these themes so if you have skills on those areas, feel free to raise your hand.
3. Staff reformation
This is a process which was started long ago behind the scenes, however it never happened due to lack of interest/ staff having other commitments irl. In other words, this reformation would improve our staff to function as one. No longer we'd have separate departments for ER's, Rf's and Op's, rather we'd have one department simply called DSB STAFF which would train staff who are capable of handling any area of DSB, from moderating public arena to hosting events. Whatever may be necessary at any time.
In order to achieve this goal, all the staff procedures will be updated to go hand in hand with the new zone rules mentioned above. The goal is to reach a certain standards and guarantee the quality of moderating, bring it back to the old level, it has had several quality issues in the remaining year, I can admit that.
4. Activity & playing
Activity has been low during the winter, however as the summer is picking up we've had improvements in the activity. Public has frequently had 10 players playing since the summer holidays started kicking in about a week ago. These players who are coming in are usually DSB old timers but some random new players might come in too, this is most likely the effect of having Continuum on Steam Greenlight.
These players seek to have fun which is sometimes provided by public but sometimes needs something else, therefore some event activity will be tried during the summer.
5. Steam Greenlight
As you all probably have noticed, as Continuum is on Steam now, we need to be aware and willing to help the new players if there are any of them coming to DSB. Good first impressions of our zone are important if we wish to gain something out of this wonderful opportunity. The traffic on Steam related websites is extremely high but if the first impression of a zone/game is bad, these players will most likely not be back. Therefore I encourage everybody to be less hostile and more helpful towards these players, this is one of our last shots at getting some population to our zone.
6. Event days
At the moment, we have had ideas of arranging events on two different days during the week. First day would be Wednesday and the second would be Saturday. For Wednesdays the idea was to have a summer long Duel Tournament, DSB Duel Championship 2013 kind of competition where you can play every week to gain points towards final ranking. Once the season is over you'd be rewarded with your name on somewhere around DSB and all the players who play actively will be named at the forums/dsb.com news as well.
Saturdays are not clear on what will happen yet but possibly practices or bab games would happen then, and on request some events could happen as well. The idea is to keep everybody active and playing, the more we have in game, the more will come in. Activity boosts more activity and lures in more players!
7. The End (of this post..)
So, this is a list of improvements and a general to-do list, the timetable for this is on basis of ASAP and help with these activities and any help regarding any fields is more than welcome. For the rules, a short set of rules will be provided in matter of the next couple weeks for discussion and development. This will happen publicly on these forums so everybody can have their word on this process, we are after all a community and we need to function as such.
Feel free to discuss, comment or say anything you wish, however constructive discussion is encouraged!
